Used van values continue to rise in March

March auctions set new records for ‘fleet & lease’ and part exchange vans

STRONG demand for secondhand vans pushed up used van values in March, as traders and small businesses continued to seek out good vehicles.

Latest data from BCA Pulse shows average values in March continued this year’s upward trend, with new record values set for fleet and lease, and dealer part-exchange vans.

March produced the highest average figure at £4860 for all LCVs for any month since Pulse began compiling data in 2005.

There was a slight increase in the average age of secondhand vans to 58.8 months while average mileage also rose by more than 2,000 miles to 80,000 miles.

The fleet and lease van sector saw values improve again in March, with a rise of £84 (1.4%) to £5907. This marked the fourth consecutive month where a record average value was achieved for ex-corporate owned stock.

Performance against CAP decreased half a point to 102.7% and there was an improvement in retained value against Manufacturer Recommended Price to 35.43% compared with 34.9% in February.

March was ahead, year-on-year, by £633.

BCA’s Duncan Ward told Business Vans: “Values remained strong in the run-up to Easter, as the combination of limited supply and good levels of demand in the remarketing sector saw prices rise for corporate stock and older dealer part-exchange vans.  LCV values have been universally strong throughout the first quarter of this year and are significantly higher than the same period last year.”
