VANARAMA, the UK’s largest independent van leasing broker and sponsors of Business Vans’  Van of the Year Awards, has been crowned SME Business of the Year at the National Business Awards backed by the government and presented by Lloyds Bank.

The company, founded by Andy Alderson in 2007, has enjoyed a record year, with sales growing by 56% and profitability up by 145%.

With headquarters in Hemel Hempstead, the business currently employs just under 100 staff and has regional representatives covering 51 territories across the UK.

Alderson said: “We are truly thrilled to be crowned winners of the SME Business of the Year award. It’s a real testament to the hard work put in by all our staff across the whole business.

We want to build on this award success for bigger and better things. Having just launched our new car leasing brand Vanarama Cars, this award gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase all our brands together.

“We take extreme pride in providing a high level of customer service and creating a working culture where our members of staff feel proud to come into the office every day. This award is recognition of all the hard work put in by the whole team to make that happen on a daily basis.

“We couldn’t be happier to win but won’t rest on our laurels. We have ambitious plans to grow the business by 40% over the next 12 months.”

Vanarama wins SME Business of Year by beating finalists including Frugi, HelloFresh, Home Leisure Direct, ILG and Pooch & Mutt to claim victory and take home the award.

The judging panel, which included Gareth Oakley, managing director at Lloyds SME Banking, said: “Vanarama were incredibly impressive, both in their submission and presentation. We were particularly impressed with their insight into their customers and their ability to turn that into strong business growth. A very worthy winner for this highly competitive category.”

Jon Gilbert, commercial director of Vanarama, who accepted the award on behalf of the business, said: “The awards are backed by the UK government, with the night opening with a word from the Prime Minister.

“It’s a real accomplishment to everything Vanarama has achieved over the past 12 months. Special thanks must also go out to the team who put together our award entry including our non exec director Helen King and brand director Steve Mark.

“We want to build on this award success for bigger and better things. Having just launched our new car leasing brand Vanarama Cars, this award gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase all our brands together.”

Vanarama are also sponsors of the National League, supporting grass roots football in the UK and have recently been finalists for the Sponsorship / Partnership of the Year award at this years’ Football Business Awards.
