New board aims to expand into financial services

Vans Direct, a leading van broker business based in Wales, is aiming to expand its business portfolio.

This follows an eight-figure takeover by a new management board.

Currently, Vans Direct sells 9000 light commercial vans into the small business owner-driver market – about 10% of the available van market. But new commercial director, Edward Pigg, says the company wants to offer a broader range of financial products.

“At the moment we just sell vans to the small business market, mainly single tradesmen and professionals, which we do very effectively,” commented Pigg. “It has made Vans Direct the largest van supplier in the UK.

“However, we have the opportunity to broaden our services to the small business market with financial services such as contract hire, HP and insurance products, but all specific to small business requirements.

“Our ambition is to reach 20% of the light van market.”

Other key figures in the new Vans Direct management team include chief executive Langley Davis (who set up Park Asset Finance, a car finance business), and operations director Jane Pocock, from the AA. Pigg was formerly with Lombard Vehicle Management, one of the top four leasing companies in the UK.
