ACFO members vote online for their best van
THERE’S no stopping the Ford Transit Connect. It has taken the top spot in the hearts and minds of professional van operators. For the seventh successive year it is their Light Fleet Van of the Year.
Members of ACFO – the Association of Car Fleet Operators – voted for the first time online. But the result was still the same: another victory for the Transit Connect.
But it didn’t have things all its own way. Joining it at the top of the podium was the Volkswagen Caddy in the first ever tie for the top spot.
However, in the the Fleet Panel Van of the Year category, the Ford Transit’s grip on the award for the past 14 years came to an end. The van fleet operators voted the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter into top spot.
ACFO chairman Julie Jenner said: “The 2009 Awards in many ways mark a sea-change. Our decision to move to an online voting process has been rewarded with members voting in record numbers for their vehicles of the year.
“The quality of the vans – and the cars – available to fleets is underlined by the fact that the Transit Connect and the Caddy scored equal votes giving the first tie in the history of the awards and the Sprinter narrowly overhauling the iconic Transit,” added Jenner.
The Car of the Year award was won by the VW Golf for the third successive year.
