The VW Engineered to Go range has been extended with dropsiders and tippers based on the VW Crafter now available off-the-shelf from VW dealers

IF you’re after a builder’s truck with a tipper or dropsides, there are several to choose from, but it’s important nowadays with the new EU Type Approval rules in place that you buy them from the right places.

You could buy a chassis-cab and then get Dodgy Dave under the arches to put a body on your builder’s truck for you, which will be cheap but not at all cheerful when something goes wrong.

Or you could do worse than buy them at your local Volkswagen dealer, as VW has just announced it is putting more investment into its VW Engineered To Go scheme, so that Crafter dropsides and tippers will be available off the shelf from dealerships.

All VW Engineered To Go bodies are manufactured by Ingimex and are recognised for their quality and durability, benefits that enhance the residual value of the vehicles and are listed within the CAP price guide.

Your new builder’s truck will come with European whole vehicle type approval and three years manufacturer warranty, unlike those from the aforementioned Dave.

Andrew Waite, head of sales operations for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “The Crafter chassis has always offered the ideal blend of big payloads and customisation options but – for some of our customers – an off-the-shelf model suits their business needs perfectly.

“Driving off the forecourt with one of our VW Engineered to Go Crafters means customers can swiftly get the vehicles they need with the additional peace-of-mind that the accompanying body is hard-wearing, corrosion-resistant and recognised for its quality and durability.”
