FOLLOWING the introduction of government incentives, and 24/7 Ultra Low Emissions Zones (ULEZ), many fleet managers and their drivers are exploring whether an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle could work for them.

VOLKSWAGEN Volkswagen Financial Services has partnered with electric vehicle home charging provider, Pod Point, to provide charging solutions at home for customers.

Drivers who are suitable for an electric vehicle must consider that 60% of the charging is done at home, while the van is stationary – usually overnight.

The Pod Point partnership will ensure all VWFS | Fleet customers can consider an electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV), by providing a home charge point and installation service included within the cost of their lease.

This new venture strengthens VWFS | Fleet’s innovative EV proposition by offering a full, end-to-end EV service. This follows the launch of its first-to-market telematics analysis tool, Future Fleet Analysis, advising Fleet Managers on the future of their fleet.

As a multi marque leasing company with the backing of VW Group (VWG) and now partnering with a charging specialist, VWFS | Fleet is in a strong position to consult customers on the best solution for their fleet, ensuring drivers who are a good fit for EV have the opportunity and infrastructure to make the switch to this fuel type.

Tom Brewer, Head of Sales and Marketing at VWFS | Fleet, said: “With the increasing development of electric vehicles, charging was always going to be the next big challenge. We’re keen to support the industry and education around EV is the key.

“Not everyone will be a good fit for EV, but for those who are, it’s crucial to have a home charging solution. We can offer these charge points and installation as part of the cost of the lease, making the shift to EV as smooth as possible.”
