•  Encourages scrappage of older diesel vehicles against purchase of latest Euro 6 models
  • Incentives of up to £2,000, on top of existing retail offers, according to model, available on new petrol and diesel models
  • Vehicles traded in will be scrapped rather than sold on
  • Offers available to owners of pre-Euro 5 diesel vehicles registered before 2010

VOLKSWAGEN has decided to join a growing number of brands offering a scrappage scheme for older commercial vehicles.

Following on from the recently announced Ford scrappage scheme VW is the latest to assist in removing the most polluting vehicles from our roads.

The VW scrappage scheme offers up to £2,000 off the price of a new commercial vehicle if you trade in a pre-Euro 5 diesel vehicle registered before 1 January 2010. Any vehicles traded in on the scheme will then be scrapped to ensure they don’t make it back onto the roads.

The Volkswagen scheme only applies if you are trading in a diesel vehicle against a new lower-emission van. If you’re planning on replacing your existing van and fancy a VW you’ve got until 31 December to make a decision. This is a temporary scheme so it won’t apply after that date.

You can trade in any make or model of vehicle as long as it complies with the guidelines and has been registered to you for at least six months. The VW scrappage scheme also runs in conjunction with any existing offers so it’s possible to save considerably more than the scrappage incentive alone.

For example, trade in your old van against a brand new Crafter and VW will give you £2,000 off. On top of the existing retail offers the additional scrappage incentive doubles the discount to a not insignificant £4,000 off the price of your new brand new van.

As it stands the entire range of VW commercial vehicles, both petrol and diesel, meets the latest Euro 6 emissions standard so there will be plenty of choice. There are a few exceptions to the rule, namely the Amarok, Transporter Sportline, and California, but other than that you have the entire VW range to pick from.

If you are considering a new van this may be a good time to put pen to paper and save yourself a little, or even a lot, of extra money. Not only will the VW scrappage scheme save you money on the cost of the new vehicle. you might also get to see your fuel bills fall too.
